Mummy Rice Krispy Treats

Mummy Rice Krispy Treats with edible eyeballs and white icing that looks like bandgaes on a round, wooden cutting board on a wooden table

Halloween is such a fun time of year! Mummy Rice Krispy Treats are a fun and easy Halloween take on a classic treat that doesn’t require too much skill or effort and you can even get the kids involved in the decorating if you want. They taste amazing too!

Mummy Rice Krispy Treats are made in two steps, but neither step requires too much time. If you’re super busy, I recommend making the treats a day in advance before decorating so you don’t have to wait a long time for them to cool. Just cover them with clingfilm as they sit overnight.

The candy melts and edible eyes can be found in most grocery stores, but if you don’t see them locally at yours you can look for them in craft stores, online or anywhere that sells specialty cake decorating supplies. I normally order mine from Hobbycraft. Let’s get started!

Rice Krispy Treat with white icing and eyes

Ingredients

  • 45g butter plus more for greasing
  • 300g mini marshmallows
  • 180g Rice Krispies or other similar crispy rice cereal
  • 1x 250g package of white candy melts
  • Edible eyes

Method

  1. Grease a 32cm x 23cm (13in x 19in) tin or glass baking dish with the extra butter and set it aside.
  2. Melt 45g of butter in a large heavy based pot over low heat.
  3. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until they are completely melted and smooth.
  4. Once the marshmallows are completely melted, remove the pot from the heat and immediately pour in the cereal. Stir with a wooden spoon until it’s all coated. It won’t be easy, but work as quickly as you can to combine the ingredients as much as possible.
  5. Transfer the mix to the greased tin and press it down into the tin, making sure to work it into the corners while flattening the top. Leave them for about an hour or until they have completely cooled.
  6. Once your treats have cooled completely, cut them into small rectangles and place them spaced out on a baking sheet covered in parchment paper.
  7. Microwave the candy melts according to packet instructions. Using a spoon, drizzle the melted candy in a criss-cross motion over each treat individually, attaching two eyes to the melted candy as you go. Once they’re all done, go back and do a second layer anywhere you feel it needs it, making the criss cross motion again to achieve the look of mummy bandages.
  8. Leave the treats to set completely, which is a bit quicker if you place them in the fridge. Trim any edges of chocolate off the sides if desired and enjoy.
